CHALLENGE

In an age when companies are losing 50 percent of their employees every four years and 50 percent of their customers every five years, employee satisfaction is a premium. First Data, a leader in electronic commerce and payment services, wanted a way to curb attrition and attract and retain the best and the brightest talent.

The company had grown rapidly through a series of acquisitions and mergers. Surveys revealed that employees were discontented with the differences in benefits, long hours, poor lines of communication, too much focus on cost cutting and lack of employee recognition.

Human Resources and Hewitt Associates were making great strides in resolving this complex issue, however, the perception among employees was that the situation was not being addressed.

INSIGHT

When developing and implementing a people strategy with progressive people practices, a combination of practices is more effective than a single practice. More transparency,  combined with more timely communication, would be required to garner the necessary support to position First Data as an Employer of Choice.

SOLUTION
